The current ownership team of Matador Pizza took over operations at Varsity in 2011. Since then, they have been actively looking for ways to expand and share their love for food. The current space in Varsity had undergone 3 expansions over the years, each time adding more space for memories to be made. What they wouldn’t give to be able to take over more space in the building but alas, it is not in the cards… What is the next best thing then? A second location that is close enough to maintain their relationship and love of the NW, but also far enough away that they can expand their takeout and delivery radius for more to enjoy!

The restaurant industry can be very tough. Food costs, labour struggles, consistent supply chain issues, the list of things that could go wrong is long. Many restaurants do not make it, even if they should. Opening up a new business in any economic climate is risky but these days it feels even more scary.
The new owners took possession of the space on a Friday afternoon, spent the weekend cleaning and organizing and Monday morning the renovations began! A fresh coat of paint, some décor changes to establish the ‘Matador Pizza feeling’ and BAM! – Matador Pizza Hillhurst was born!
They opened their doors for business less than 6 days after getting the space and are so excited to be well-received right off the hop! They look forward to being able to grow and become a contributing part of the Hillhurst community and surrounding area. They invite you to come in and have a look around, try a slice or take a pizza home and start creating lasting memories that have become synonymous with the Matador brand.
